The Ruhr area in bloom - late summer light on the heathland

Finally the time had come again, the time of the heather blossom started and especially from the end of August the conditions in terms of weather were really good 😃

Strictly speaking, it's not so much the purple flowering "heather" that is my highlight here, but rather the weather conditions. On cool mornings, from mid-August (into autumn), ground fog often develops in the morning. Combined with a cloudless sky, this is always photographically interesting. With a little experience, this can be predicted very reliably from some weather data.

I can go to the same heathland 50 times - the fog/sun mix behaves so differently each time that, in addition to the "classic perspectives", new perspectives and motifs always open up. Absolutely fascinating for me!

This year we had this fog/sun mix particularly often, as it was very often cool in the mornings. Especially this week (in which I had no time except for yesterday) the conditions were good practically every day.

After all, it was enough to visit the heathland 4 times; last weekend, for example, was very productive. Since I now only selectively go according to the weather forecast when choosing my days and always decide at short notice (i.e. at 4 a.m.), I am practically no longer disappointed at all. Nevertheless, one morning was particularly impressive, as the fog lasted very long and I was able to photograph some of my favourite birch trees in fascinating light.

The broom heather itself I had seen in much better condition. No comparison to 3 years ago, for example, when the purple was really fierce. Obviously, the short-term dampness of this summer did not help completely. But it's still very photogenic in places where there isn't a fence around the Heidschnucken.

Yesterday morning I had the last good session and today we are sitting at the airport heading for Sweden and Norway, where we will spend the next 3 weeks.

So I won't be in touch again until mid-October, then hopefully with some Norwegian impressions in my luggage 😃🖐

Many greetings and have fun with the series,

Thomas
