Frosty World 7/8: The Art of freezing rain

The motives of my today's series came not only surprisingly on my photographic agenda, rather I have never experienced such a spectacle in nature.

During an extreme cold period at the beginning of February, a narrow band of freezing rain passed over Germany - and I lived in the middle of it 😀 I never thought I would produce a series of photos in the meadows and forests within 1km from our living room 😅

I had heard of something like this before, but more in connection with slippery roads. I didn`t know that this phenomenon can be so massive that every branch of the trees, no matter how delicate, is covered with a thick layer of ice. By the way, this was unfortunately not only true for trees:

My car had also been hit and was covered with a massive thick layer of ice, since it was parked overnight in a windbreak. It took me more than 2 hours to be able to drive it again 😅

But let's get to the good side: I had already shown a few impressions as a "teaser" in the third part of the series - today I want to show you the somewhat more artistic pictures from these days. Among other things, this clear icing creates an incredible number of reflections on the plants, with which one could create "open aperture" a great bokeh and blur circles.

Coupled with a few great sunny days, I was able to observe very beautiful light atmospheres.

Many greetings,
Thomas
